I always had a love for animals, but it wasn’t till I moved to Tallahassee FL that I found my true passion. When I was younger, I went to the zoo all of the time and I loved seeing all of the animals.
I think that’s when I know I wanted to work in a place that involved animals. Little did I know that this would turn into an obsession and I would be working at a zoo in the future.
A lot of people give a zoo a hard time because they think we just lock animals up in cages for no reason besides our own entertainment. However, that’s not true. A zoo does a lot of good and help restore populations that might have gone extinct otherwise.
I love working here in Tallahassee FL and I would not want to leave my job for anywhere else. I stayed nearby in furnished housing in Tallahassee that provided me with everything that I needed for basic living.
Right now, I’m an assistant to one of the zookeepers at this location. While I’m going to school to hopefully become a zookeeper one day. I love this job and everything that I get to do with it.
Being able to interact with the animals every single day is one of the best parts about this job. At the same time, it can be exhausting.

We had a disaster last weekend at the zoo where one of the animals got out of its cage. Luckily, we were able to stop it before it was out running around with all of the tourists. Had that happened, it probably would be on the front page of every news source possible.
I didn’t know when I first started working here that there’s a lot of protocol that you have to follow when an animal gets loose.
If something happens, that whole place goes on a lockdown and depending on the animal that is running around will determine the level of security that is taken.
After this crazy day we had, let’s just say, it was more than nice to head back to my furnished housing in Tallahassee for a glass of wine!
